We all want to end the use of guns in criminal acts. We also want to end world hunger and a dozen other altruistic ideals that simply impossible, but goals we can all strive toward. Chicago’s mayor, Lori Lightfoot, does not want to take responsibility for her city’s policies and laws. Instead, she consistently blames others for her failures.
Typically, Lightfoot blames Indiana for Chicago’s staggeringly high crime rate involving firearms. Lightfoot claims Indiana’s laws cause a flood of firearms to flow across the state line which allows criminals to commit said crimes. While Indiana is (by far) not the only state Lightfoot attempts to blame for her failed policies, the mainstream media never poses the question of why the states with less restrictive gun laws do not have the high crime rates Chicago is plagued with.
Chicago’s mayor, Lori Lightfoot, does not want to take responsibility for her city’s policies and laws. Instead, she consistently blames others for her failures.
Regardless of the media’s failures, Lightfoot wants federal gun control measures to somehow stop criminals when all of the laws Chicago has already passed have failed.
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is growing increasingly frustrated with the availability of guns on the streets after a 7-year-old girl was shot and killed in a McDonald’s drive-thru over the weekend.
“Folks, we are living in madness if we don’t step up and deal with this problem. So yes, I’m very satisfied with what our police superintendent and the police department are doing in an impossible environment where we got to have help,” Lightfoot said.
The mayor called once again for what she deems to be “common sense” federal gun control legislation on Monday, but also called out the courts for not doing more.
“We’ve got to actually hold people accountable who are wreaking havoc in our streets, the fact that we have gone now 13 months and we don’t have criminal trials in Cook County,” Lightfoot said.
However, there’s a lot more to violent crime than just that. While criminal trials have been on hiatus due to COVID, Chicago wasn’t exactly a picture of peace and harmony before the pandemic.
That’s because Lightfoot is quick to spend her time as mayor lashing out about how all of this is someone else’s fault and absolutely no time digging into the roots of the problem in her city.
The fact that a young child paid for that lapse in leadership is horrible, but it’s not because of a lack of federal gun control.
Time and time again, we see that criminals bypass gun laws via things such as straw purchases and black-market gun sales. Until, and unless, you combat those, you’re not going to actually touch on how criminals get guns. All Lightfoot is calling for is more infringements on the rights of law-abiding Americans, because she can’t deal with the very people who aren’t following laws in the first place.
Yet there’s little the rest of the country can do. Lightfoot is a mayor of a city that really does think gun control works. Despite all the evidence around them each and every day, they think it works. There’s absolutely no ability for anyone outside of Chicago to vote her out.
However, it’s also time that people explain to the good folks of Chicago that gun control is a non-starter for millions of Americans, that none of Illinois’ gun control has done a damn thing to help them, and if less-restrictive gun laws are the cause, then why are none of these other states experiencing these problems. If Chicago want its city to be safe, it needs to step up and vote out people like Lightfoot who don’t want to do anything except whine that the world isn’t conforming to their will.
Do you thing Lightfoot’s call for Federal gun control measures will resonate with mainstream America? Will politicians and anti gunners use her failures to push new gun control through Congress? Share your opinions in the comment section.
